Lake Jackson, Clute, Freeport, Quintana, and Surfside Beach are rich in recreational opportunities and the 23 miles of Texas beaches and gulf offer great leisure and sport activities for the whole family. Golf, diving, paddling, surfing, and auto racing are just a few recreational options in the Brazosport Area.


Paddling offers a brand new perspective on the world. Get in the water to experience a closer view of wildlife and scenery, drop a fishing line or just relax. State laws require you have a life vest and whistle or some other sound signaling device on your craft. Don't forget drinking water, sunscreen, insect repellent and protective foot gear. Christmas Bay Paddling Trail

This shallow 4,173-acre bay is bordered by the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge and has extensive oyster reefs and salt marsh ideal for fishing or bird watching. The total trail length is 19.1 miles and there is a 3.8-mile route and a 10.3-mile route, it also includes 29 numbered GPS markers.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge

Salt Lake, Nicks Lake, and Lost Lake are perfect for nature watching and fishing. Find geese, ducks and sandhill cranes or fish for speckled trout, red drum, flounder and croaker.

San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge

Put your kayak in at the Cedar Lake Creek Fishing Area and look for a variety of birds including snow geese, roseate spoonbills, yellow rails, and Neotropical Migratory birds. Anglers can fish for speckled trout, red drum, flounder and croaker.

Oyster Creek

Access this treasure from Dunbar Park in Lake Jackson. View majestic moss-hung oak trees among the many residential homes along the creek.

Old Brazos River

Launch from RiverPlace at Freeport Muncipal Park or from the Freeport Community House. Don't go under the bridge, there is too much boat traffic that way for paddling.

Buffalo Camp Bayou

This flatwater is easily accessible from Wilderness Park in Lake Jackson. Look for migratory birds and wildlife like deer and rabbits on the banks.

Stephen F. Austin Trail

The trail unfolds over one of the most incredible ecological systems in our region, where the historic Brazos River winds through the dense, wet Columbia Bottomlands. This lush world of towering trees, palmetto thickets and flowering plants supports a multitude of wildlife species and provides a critically important stopover habitat for migrating birds. The entire 35-mile trail is segmented into four separate trails:

Sugar Mill Stretch

Explore this 6.9 mile section from County Road 849 near Brazoria to FM 2004 outside of Lake Jackson.

Gulf Prairie Run

Enjoy this 9.8 mile segment from FM 2004 to Highway 288 in Freeport, across the street from the Freeport Municipal Park and Police Station.

Old Settlement Passage

Discover this 10.4 mile section Highway 35 in East Columbia to County Road 849 near Brazoria.

Columbia Bottomland Waterway

Travel this 8.3 mile section from the Brazos River County Park in Angleton to Highway 35 in East Columbia.


The Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary

This premier diving destination is about 100 miles off the coast of Freeport. The northernmost coral reefs in the continental United States are located here. If you want to see Star and Brain coral, Manta Rays, Hammerhead sharks, and Loggerhead sea turtles then book a trip with one of the local dive charters. You might even spot a whale shark if you visit this national treasure in July, August or September. Best suited for intermediate or advanced divers. A moderate climate and gulf waves make for some of the best surfing conditions on the Texas coast. Waves are generally small to moderate and perfect for novice or less experienced surfers. Auto & Kart Racing

Satisfy your need for speed at MSR Houston, the premier road course and karting track in Texas. Ride or drive your choice of available cars or your own car around the 17 curves on the coarse. Options include NASCAR, BMW M3, Mercedes C63, Panoz GTS, or a Thunder Roadster. The 3/4 mile kart track provides a fun alternative and the karts deliver speeds from 20 to 90 miles per hour.


The Wilderness Golf Course

Hit the links at the Wilderness Golf Course in Lake Jackson. Exceptional bunkering and putting surfaces will challenge players of every skill level. Surrounded by natural landscapes that native wildlife and birds thrive on, it's fitting that the Wilderness is a certified Audubon Sanctuary golf course in Texas. A large practice facility and banquet capabilities make this a great group diversion.

Freeport Municipal Golf Course

Enjoy the gulf breezes on this 7000-yard long links-style course. Golfers enjoy the numerous palm trees that dot the course and can appreciate that the Freeport Golf Course is the best golf value in Texas. In addition to top-notch play, the course offers golf lessons, a driving range, a pro shop, carts and club rentals.

Lake Jackson Skatepark: This metal surface lighted skatepark is located at the MacLean Park complex. Free admission, helmet required.

River Cruise

Cruise down the San Bernard River on the Yellowstone Paddlewheeler. Choose an open-sitting cruise, private chartered cruise or the four- course dinner cruise. Boat is docked at Dido's Seafood Restaurant in Brazoria.
